Doors will open in August of 2011

To date there are no shelter programs for anyone in Southern Jefferson County.  Our purpose is to start with the families with children to transition the families out of their homeless situation.  Homelessness IS a situation, not a way of life.  Families normally stay in the program 45-90 days providing they are adhering to guest guidelines and making progress in their own efforts toward self-sufficiency.  Family Promise of Jefferson County, Inc. is a network affliliacted with the Nation Family Promise.

The Council has received special recognition for its programming, including awards for outstanding programs from Wisconsin Literacy, Inc. from 2003-2009, and was the 2010 recipient of the WISCONSIN CARES ABOUT KIDS award from Governor Doyle’s office and the State Public Defender for its family programs

The following instructional services are provided to adults with basic literacy needs or limited English proficiency throughout the county and at the county jail:

• ADULT LITERACY:

  • Basic Skills – 1-to-1 tutoring for native English speakers wishing to improve reading, writing and computation skills; preparation for GED program
  • English as Second Language (ESL) – instruction for immigrants in English
  • Job Skills – computer instruction; and job skill development
  • U.S. Citizenship and civics instruction

• FAMILY LITERACY:

  • Books for Babies – providing families with a keepsake rhyming book at child’s birth
  • Rooted in Reading – early literacy development for families with 3 to 5-year olds
  • Storybook Project – incarcerated parents record a book for their child

Our goals and purpose for the Namaste  Center is really quite simple:  To bring spiritual information and education to assist in the awakening of consciousness on earth. Our beliefs are based on Universal Truths found in  ALL religions. We  believe that the practice of Truth is very personal  to each individual.  Come to Namaste and discover the wonder of  individual spirituality. The ultimate purpose for Namaste and myself, is to  project the belief that: All Religions Are Good. People of all faiths can  find a common spiritual philosophy of life under one banner or umbrella of  energy. It is not the aim of Namaste to teach one religion for all, but  the exact opposite– to embrace all, from many religions, faiths, and  healing modalities, so that the followers of all faiths, all philosophies, may  find spiritual strength in and at Namaste. ALL may come into Namaste no matter what their religion,  keeping their own ideas, and their own beliefs. May you come to Namaste  bringing your own religion with you, and find a  Welcome and Open Heart. NAMASTE ‘   

We believe downtown is not just a place, but a symbol. A symbol of the economic health of a community, a symbol of the quality of life of the people who live there. Downtown gives us a sense of our history and of pride in our community.  It is the literal and figurative heart of a town.

Great downtowns don’t just happen – there has to be a vision of what the downtown can become, there has to be strong leaders willing to do what it takes to succeed, there has to be constant management and there has to be participation by all members of a community. In Lake Mills we are extremely fortunate to have all those elements in the Lake Mills Main Street Program.
